Going Green: The Real Impact of Idling

January 23, 2013

According to the California Energy Commission, one hour of idle time represents 80 miles of engine wear and approximately one gallon of fuel. Despite this wasteful and environmentally harmful practice, many fleets have little to no enforcement policies when it comes to preventing drivers from idling.

Join us for this month’s Fleet Safety and Efficiency Webinar as we take a deeper look into the myths surrounding idling and examine how a reduction in idling practices can help save your company hundreds of dollars per vehicle every year and reduce your environmental footprint. Learn what it takes to make a change in your organization and what resources and technologies are available to help you get there.

Back to BASIC's: Improving Your CSA Score

November 14, 2012

Since its national inception in 2010, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) program has been used to improve commercial truck and bus safety by identifying fleets that pose the greatest risk to the roads. While debate continues on the reliability of the CSA scoring system, the Department of Transportation has used the program as a catalyst to shut down over 13 low-scoring trucking companies in 2012 alone.

In this month’s Fleet Safety and Efficiency Webinar Series, we will break down the CSA BASIC scoring system, as well as some of the changes that are coming in December. Learn what makes up a score, what is putting you at risk and steps you can take to improve those scores to avoid penalties from the FMCSA.

Electronic Driver Logs: Dissecting the Debate

October 17, 2012

Carleton WatkinsOn January 31, 2011, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a proposed rule that would require all interstate commercial truck and bus companies to use Electronic On-Board Recorders (EOBRs) to enforce Hours-of Service (HOS) laws. Despite setbacks brought by independent organizations, the FMCSA and American Trucking Association continue to push for its approval. So what does the rule entail? What does this mean for your company? And how can EOBRs be used effectively to make it an investment, and not a cost.

Carleton Watkins, EOBR expert and member of the FMCSA Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee, joins us this month to walk us through the history of the EOBR debate and give us a glimpse into its future. Learn the ins-and-outs of the proposed federal rule, the pros and cons of such a mandate and the solutions available to comply.

Join inthinc Chief Technology Officer, Corey Catten, as he shares insight on available technologies to monitor and/or prevent employees from using their cell phones while driving. Learn the pros and cons of investigative, detective and preventive solutions with real-world results from pilot programs, along with driver and fleet manager feedback and reactions.
